Trusting Your Life

As I sit down to write this I notice a kind of forward pull of excitement as we are getting ready to drive to California for a week of training in our Embodied Life mentoring program. There is a vitality, a feeling like the needle of a compass humming northward… As I sit with this feeling of aliveness, two inspiring passages come to mind:

“The more we honor the life force that’s in us, the more we have to let go of our narcissism, which is our sort of self-congratulatory, self-protective, self-absorbed way of being, the more we honor the life in us, the more naked we have to become, and the more we have to open to this world and to what we’re called to do.” ~ Reggie Ray

and an old favorite from David Whyte

Sweet Darknes

When your eyes are tired
the world is tired also.
When your vision has gone
no part of the world can find you.
Time to go into the dark
where the night has eyes
to recognize its own.
There you can be sure
you are not beyond love.
The dark will be your womb
The night will give you a horizon
further than you can see.
You must learn one thing.
The world was made to be free in.
Give up all other worlds
except the one to which you belong.
Sometimes it takes darkness and the sweet
confinement of your aloneness
to learn
anything or anyone
that does not bring you alive
is too small for you.

-David Whyte

There is so much to harvest from each of these. What if we could let our life force, let what is alive in us be more of a trusted guide? A couple weeks ago, Erin offered the inquiry of “Is it making you kinder?” that can be applied to so many contexts in life. Another I would add, as a central inquiry is, “Does it bring me more alive?” A good open question to hold, without hurrying toward an answer…

Wishing you trust in what is alive in your life,
